Choose a wig fiber by the routine you want to maintain. Conventional synthetic, heat-friendly synthetic, human hair, and blends are useful shopping categories, but the instructions supplied for the specific wig remain the starting point for care. A brand name alone is not a care label.

Separate the categories

Do not borrow a heat setting

Ask to see the after-wash routine

• What products does the manufacturer specify?
• Does the style need to be reset after washing?
• Which tools, if any, are permitted, and under what conditions?
• What detangling routine is recommended for this length and texture?
• Which tasks should be handled by a stylist familiar with that fiber?

Read a blend description literally

A blended fiber needs its own instructions. Ask for the manufacturer’s stated composition and the care guide for that blend. Do not assume that it behaves exactly like either ingredient on its own.

Keep fiber, density, and cap construction in separate columns when comparing products. A lighter-looking hairstyle in a photograph is not enough to identify the material or establish how much care it needs.

Budget for the routine, not just the wig

List the supplies and appointments you would need for each option. Consider whether you want one familiar finished style or the ability to change it regularly. A choice that fits your schedule can be more useful than paying for styling flexibility you will not use.
